Thurs 26th Feb 4.00 - 6.00 p.m. Governors training: Sustainable Schools - going beyond the basics
Who is the training aimed at? Governors whose school has already created a sustainability action plan (e.g. through Eco-Schools bronze or silver) or who have previously attended the introductory course.
This is a chance to go further in planning your school's response to the Sustainable Schools targets. After you've created an action plan, how do you monitor its effectiveness, measure the impact it's had on your school and ensure that it can be sustainable long-term? Part of this training will involve finding out from your school's eco-committee (or action group) the priorities it's identified and working with them.
The course will be held at St Gregory's Primary, Farnworth - one of a handful of Bolton schools with the Eco Schools Green Flag award.
Bookings: Pauline.Baldwin@bolton.gov.uk

Mon 2nd March (in Fairtrade Fortnight), Bolton schools will join together for a mass (Fairtrade) banana eating event at Bolton Wanderers Reebok Stadium. It's a chance for schools that have registered with Fairtrade Schools to be part of a record-breaking attempt and there will be films, workshops and presentations about Fairtrade. If your school is interested in becoming a Fairtrade School, contact Eddie Burke (the Fairtrade Schools worker): eddie.burke@tiscali.co.uk

Tues 3rd March Forest Schools Taster Day at Johnson Fold Primary School
Bolton ESD Network and Lancs Wildlife Trust are co-funding this introduction to the Forest Schools initiative. A free training day for school staff. Priority given to Bolton schools, but places are limited to 16 - first come, first served. Bookings & further details from Liz Webley: ewebley@lancswt.org.uk or 01772 751121

Tues 24th March, the ESD Network is planning its biggest event ever! A Sustainable Schools day at Victoria Hall (Bolton town centre). At this all-day event, there will be workshops, stalls and a chance to share with others about all things sustainable. Schools are encouraged to bring groups of around 12 (your Eco-Committee or School Council perhaps?). The day will be very practical and applicable to your own setting. Further details will be sent in January. Contact Steve for further details click here

Wed 1st April 1.00 - 3.00 p.m. An Introduction to Sustainable Schools for school governors
Facilitated by Steve Harrold. A participative, practical and fun introduction to what your school can do to increase its positive impact. The workshop will include info about DCSF Sustainable Schools.
The workshop will be held at Thornleigh School. Thornleigh has a strong school emphasis on global responsibilities and became the first school to achieve the Fairtrade School award from the Fairtrade Foundation. Their Fairtrade committee trades regularly, has an impressive financial turnover and has presented workshops widely. The school also has a very active Eco Committee which includes pupils, teachers, other staff and volunteers. (There will be a limit of 10 participants on this course.)
